Description
Black tiger shrimp are one of the most beloved shrimp species in the world. This is due to their delicious flavor, striking bluish color, and firm texture. Black tiger shrimp are one of the most important aquaculture species in Asia. They are primarily farmed in Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. The shrimp live in large ponds or mangroves. Therefore, this is primarily intensive aquaculture.
Like the Black Tiger shrimp, the Vannamei shrimp is also very popular. However, there are clear differences between the two species. The Black Tiger shrimp can be recognized by its dark stripes on the tail and its hard shell. Vannamei shrimp, on the other hand, have a light pink appearance and a thinner shell. Furthermore, the Black Tiger shrimp has a more intense flavor, while the Vannamei is known for its mild taste. Production also differs. Black Tiger shrimp have a lower production rate, making them more exclusive and expensive. Vannamei shrimp are intensively farmed and are therefore less expensive.
