Wild catch

Farmed Argentine shrimp? Don't worry, we don't do that. Our Argentine shrimp are wild-caught in the cold waters of the South Atlantic Ocean near Argentina. Trawls are used for this catch. We've maintained good relationships with the various parties in the supply chain for years, allowing us to guarantee high quality and a fair catch.

Catching shrimp poses completely different sustainability challenges than farming shrimp, such as our Black Tiger and Vannamei shrimp. That's why the fishery is now working towards MSC certification. This shrimp species can recover quickly and easily thanks to a short reproductive cycle of about 12 to 16 months, making it a conscious choice.

At Golden Ocean, you're choosing shrimp sourced from the source: a natural, top-quality product that we can offer year-round thanks to our clever freezing techniques. With Argentine shrimp, you'll truly be serving something special!

Features

Appearance:
The Argentine shrimp is instantly recognizable by its deep red color, even when raw. This distinguishes it from other shrimp like the Vannamei and Black Tiger, which are typically translucent, white, or gray before cooking. The intense color comes from the rich ecosystem in which these shrimp live in the South Atlantic Ocean. When cooked, they become even redder and retain their beautiful, natural hue.

Origin
Argentine shrimp are wild-caught in the cold, clear waters of the South Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Argentina. They live in a natural environment and feed on a varied diet, which contributes to their unique taste and high quality. Because they have a short reproductive cycle of 12-16 months, they can be caught sustainably without harming the population.

Taste and texture
Argentine prawns are known as the sweetest prawns in the world. They have a rich, creamy flavor and a tender, soft texture that is often compared to lobster or langoustine. This makes them a beloved ingredient in haute cuisine and perfect for refined dishes. With these prawns, you truly put something special on the table.

,
Argentine shrimp require little additional seasoning or spices. They're ideal for grilling with just a little oil, lemon, and sea salt, or for steaming to preserve their full flavor.

Labels and sustainability:
Because Argentine shrimp are wild-caught, they are naturally renewable. The fishery is actively working towards MSC certification, which guarantees that the shrimp are caught responsibly and sustainably. Thanks to their fast growth cycle, they can be caught in an environmentally responsible way without depleting the resource.
