Origin

For our breaded, frozen shrimp, we use Vannamei shrimp from Vietnam. These shrimp are farmed in intensive aquaculture, meaning they are raised in controlled ponds. Both the feed and water purification are carefully monitored. This improves the natural balance and makes production more sustainable, without compromising quality. We choose growers who can guarantee the best quality.

The Vannamei shrimp is popular worldwide. They are farmed in countries like India, Thailand, and Bangladesh. Due to their versatility in size and flavor, and their relative ease of cultivation, this shrimp accounts for a staggering 75% of global shrimp farming.

Taste & Texture
Vannamei prawns are perfect for deep-frying because they do not have a very pronounced flavor. These whiteleg prawns are therefore particularly well-suited to being marinated or breaded.

Description

Torpedo, Butterfly, and Ebi Fry… they all sound rather futuristic, especially if you've never heard of them before. Here's a quick explanation to help you make the right choice:

  • Torpedo shrimp: no, these shrimp won't fly away when you fry them. These are white-legged shrimp rolled lengthwise in a breading. The tail is still attached;
  • Butterfly shrimp: these shrimp won't fly away either. We cut them in half, but not quite all the way. This gives you an unfolded shrimp;
  • Ebi Fry shrimp: this is the Japanese version of the breaded shrimp. They are breaded with 'panko', a coating that is just a bit lighter than that of the Torpedo shrimp.
