Breeding method
Vannamei shrimp are intensively farmed in countries like India and Vietnam. Intensive aquaculture means the shrimp are raised in controlled ponds, where feed and water quality are strictly managed. Because of the relatively small surface area, large numbers of shrimp can be farmed efficiently. This is therefore much more efficient than wild-harvesting.
However, there are sustainability challenges, such as energy consumption and biodiversity conservation. That's why we're actively investing in sustainable and future-proof cultivation. We know our growers and work with the most important quality marks.
Features
Appearance
Vannamei prawns have a light, almost transparent, and pinkish appearance. They are smooth and slender with a thin, supple shell, making them easier to peel than other types of prawns. When cooked, they turn a beautiful pink or orange color — a sign that they are done and ready to be served. Cooking them longer makes them tough.
Origin:
This shrimp is popular worldwide. They are farmed in India and Vietnam. Due to their versatility in size and flavor, and their relatively easy cultivation, Vannamei shrimp account for approximately 75% of the global shrimp farming industry.
Taste & Texture
The Vannamei is one of the most farmed shrimps in the world for good reason. They are beloved by gourmets for their subtle flavor and soft texture. Perfect for a refined dish.
Cooking Use:
Because shrimp doesn't have a particularly pronounced flavor, this scampi lends itself perfectly to a tasty marinade. Thread them onto skewers and grill them on the BBQ, or make a delicious pasta dish with chili pepper for a spicy kick. Or simply stir-fry them briefly with garlic and lemon for a refreshing summer dish.
